Key West enjoys an incredible social and arts scene for a city of our size.
We have a symphony, an opera, two community playhouses, an old
fashioned movie theater featuring foreign films, a performing arts center,
and hundreds of musicians.  We are home to numerous accomplished
artists, writers, and journalists.  This is evident by the dozens of art galleries
and festivals related to culture and the arts.

Key West is also a town that likes to have fun. We have several festivals
throughout the year including Fantasy Fest®, The Key West Literary Seminar,
Womenfest, The Poker Run, The Powerboat Races, The Sailfish Tournament,
and Gay Spring Break.  The list goes on and on. In fact, during the high season,
there is rarely a night that something is not happening here.

The Dry Toutugas

The Dry Tortugas, seven small islands of coral rock and sand at the western end of the Florida Keys, have some of the healthiest remaining coral reefs in the tropical Atlantic Ocean. The Spanish called these islands Tortugas, their word for turtles, because huge numbers of green sea turtles once grazed turtle grass in their shallows. After surviving and flourishing for millions of years—since dinosaurs walked the land—sea turtle populations are now severely depleted worldwide. People have killed them for their meat and eggs, and inadvertently drowned them in commercial fishing gear. The Dry Tortugas are now part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary which provides safe refuge for endangered green and loggerhead sea turtles.
